A horror poster is used mainly for advertising. It is used primarily just before the horror film come out, around the same time as the trailer. This would be mainly for people who don't watch a lot TV where the horror trail would be advertised, for example it would be more likely for a full time worker to see the horror advertised on a poster than on the TV. They're also used for advertisement in the cinema where they know they're reaching their target audience. For the purpose of advertisement they also contain information to things such as the twitter and Facebook page.
I looked a pre-existing horror posters and analysed them to give me an idea of their lay out and conventions.
Common conventions:
The common conventions for a horror poster that I noticed while analysing some of the pre-existing ones are:
Titles - on all the posters I analysed they all had large, bold text to make it stand out to the audience.
Colour scheme - the colour scheme on all the posters I analysed were all very small and never exceeded three colours.
Release date - they all have a release date on which is larger than all the other text and sometimes a different colour but not larger than the film title.
Information - each poster has information about the film making, for example, who produced it.
Director information - they all have a small amount of text, separate from any of the other film information showing who directed it, this text is normally larger than the rest of the film information.
I then took photos which I felt would look good on the poster and gave them to my focus group and they selected one.
-James: Middle

The next thing I then did was post the pictures to the social networking site twitter and ask them which they feel is best, the poll was answered by a total of 31 people.

The majority picked the one in the middle so that's the image I will move forward with.
