I believe that the combination of ancillary tasks with my
main product is extremely effective. I have created synergy in
many ways for all three, this allowed me to create a brand. For example with my costume, I kept the costume of the
antagonist, who is on both my ancillary tasks as well as my main products, the
same throughout, this means it is recognisable to the audience. I think this is
highly important so the three products are linked together, creating optimum
advertising for the trailer I produced for ‘The Coming’.

As the three products are linked together I decided to create
as much continuity editing as possible. I did this in many ways including my
colour scheme. This was easier while creating my ancillary tasks, my poster and
magazine, as I was able to keep a small colour scheme, following common
conventions.
I used the colours red, white and black as I feel these stick
to the horror theme and have individual meanings and effects which are useful
in a horror:
Red - the colour of fire and blood, so it is associated with
energy, war, danger, strength, power. Red is a very emotionally intense color.
It enhances human metabolism, increases respiration rate, and raises blood pressure.
White - an inherently positive colour, is associated with
purity, virginity, innocence, light, goodness, heaven, safety, brilliance,
illumination, understanding, cleanliness, faith, beginnings, sterility,
spirituality, possibility, humility, sincerity, protection, softness, and
perfection.
Black - death, evil, and mystery. A mysterious colour
associated with fear and the unknown (black holes). Usually has a negative
connotation (blacklist, black humour, 'black death').
Felt as though using the black and white together meant I
would be able to create binary opposition and create the effect I wanted.
Using these colours means the audience will be able to spot
my products easily based on their designs. They also allow me to make important
things, such as the masthead on my magazine and title on my poster stand out.
However I didn’t use the same text as the magazine and poster
wouldn’t have been created by the same person if it were a real company.
I also used the same characters in each of my products so that
they would all be recognisable. It also means that it may encourage anyone who
has seen the trailer and enjoyed it to purchase the magazine and read about it.

I thought it was extremely important to include all
characters in all three as these would be most recognisable and favourite by
the audience.
I also created synergy with my props, I had the same child
toy in both my trailer and my poster, this allows a brand to be created and
could enable the company to create some merchandise as well as being effective
in the message I was trying to create.
The only way I feel I could have been more effective within
being effective with the combination on my main tasks with my ancillary tasks
is by using social media along the way, as I did while creating each product, to
ask my target audience how they effective they feel the combination is.
