Poster construction

After looking at the pre-existing horror poster I created a layout of what mine may look like to help me stick to conventions.
From the research I was aware of was a common convention to show symmetry with the poster and all but one poster I analysed showed this. I'm going to go against this convention because of the photograph I'm going to use, which the focus group picked is not symmetrical. The composition was low left to high right as the boy and girl hold hands, because of this I had to add balance to the poster by using word to photo ratio. The Title and strap line would balance the photo on the top right, and the product information would balance the photo on the bottom left.

After feedback from my focus group I decided to go with this image. I had most votes from the focus group and they follows the conventions of horror posters.
Then using the 'eyedropper' tool in photo shop I picked up different blacks from the picture to colour in the background without making it block black. I wanted to do this to create a strong source of light, the comparison of the light to the dark on the outside would have an unsettling effect on the target audience. The dark being dangerous and the light being safe.

I then added the title and ''coming soon'' as a common convention of a horror poster. I used the colour red as this is also a common convention and will stand out to the customer. I used the same font and colour for both sections of the text to stick to the colour scheme.

I then added production information which is another common convention on a horror poster. This is used for publicity and branding.
After feedback from my focus group I realised having the word 'coming' twice looked unprofessional so I changed it to a date instead.

After talking with my focus group we decided a few things were missing so I added a strap line and a certification sticker, this is a common convention for posters for horror films to ask a sinister question of the audience.
I chose this font and particular text for my strap line as it's easy to read and within the correct language register for my target audience, this would attract them to it, as well as sticking to the horror theme.
I also thought it was important to have the certification so the target audience is clear.
Another changed I added in this edit was putting all the film information in the centre as I felt its important information for advertising and expands the branding.
